This competition was announced in September but there’s still plenty of time before the dealine on 05 Jan. An ideas competition to explore the skyscraper, it’s open to students and architects who wish to redefine vertical density. No word yet on the jury.

The Europan 8 website has finally launched. (was supposed to launch on 7th, but was a bit delayed..) 75 sites are on offer in this year’s competition. The themes this year are dealing with urban fragmentation - and how to create a sense of urbanity within the ‘pieces of cities’ that are being used as testing sites for the competition. Submissions are due Monday 26 September 2005
I was sent a link today to the Kyrl’s Quay Architectural Design Competition. It’s an open competition inviting submissions to explore the status of the library in the 21st Century.
Have been searching for interesting competitions - haven’t found any particularly gripping ones - but there are a few worth mentioning. The Van Alen Parachute Pavilion for Coney Island is due April 18, 2005. The European Architectural Photography Prize 2004/05 is due Jan 28, 2005 with Betsky, Peter Davey and others on the jury. The Buzzard’s Bay Competition is due April 19, 2005 with $20,000 total prize money and has Toshiko Mori, Gregg Pasquarelli, Mack Scogin, etc. on the jury.
And lastly, Zaha Hadid will finally get to build in London now that she just won the competition for the new Architecture Foundation building. Was announced on Jan 12.
