China everywhere you look

Wednesday, February 22nd, 2006

Travelling down oxford street yesterday I counted 7 buses (including my own) with full rear surface advertisements for China, and China 2008 / London 2012 banners running down the length of the street. Selfridges west corner window looks like my handbag exploded in there - with top to bottom chinese paraphernalia and do-dads, and now everwhere I look I’m finding more and more references china china china beijing shanghai. Last month you couldn’t excape ads for Dubai - this month China.

Branded London

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

TUBE MAP rebranded. BRAND NAME: Atrovent. Licensed Canadian Pharmacy. Atrovent Let us help you find Peace of Mind. Help Yourself Now. Strangely reliant on candy bars and confectionary as a source for tube stop renaming. Could be an interesting affect of tube privatisation.

Tuesday, February 21st, 2006

brett just posted this over on his resarch site - but we were giggling while perusing the pics - so i thought i’d post what would surely be George’s favourite if he could understand and register images on a computer monitor.

a[MAZE]ing

Monday, February 20th, 2006

This may well be the maze craze that takes over after the whole SUDOKU hoopla wears off.
ONE BILLION MAZES to work out. Or I guess you could just write a script and print out your own every morning before getting on the tube…

I’m sure many a student would appreciate this strange affliction during their end of year deadlines and stress.

Rail Geography

Monday, February 20th, 2006

Interesting GRAPHICshowing a new distorted Europe as perceived through travel times with the TGV trains.
(via cityofsound / via GSD)
Having just spent some time in Japan - there’s a country that would shrink 20-fold with its extensive fast-rail network.

Kemistry + Kemistry

Sunday, February 19th, 2006

KEMISTRY GALLERY is currently showing Zak Kyes’ RETROSPECTIVE _ All That Is Solid Melts Into Air. Zak’s show is up from 16 Feb through to end of March - so go check it out. He had some help with the fabulous display concept by yours truly.

KEMISTRY (the studio upstairs from the gallery) is the design group responsible for CNN International’s new makeover. Minimal and web-ish the redesign focused on getting rid of all the sidebars and junk and actually let the image be the central focus. How about that?

The beauty of the Super Bowl

Monday, February 13th, 2006

Now the only things i ever really liked about the Superbowl were 1. betting, 2. cornbread, and 3. guacomole. Sadly the only other category of superbowl likes that i miss living in the UK are the adverts (you can tell that i don’t really watch it for the football). Found this linked via Airbag - it’s the FED EX advert that ran during the game. hilarious.

3D web traffic

Thursday, February 9th, 2006

As architects we’re always trying to 3dimensionally visualize diagrams, drawings, etc. VisitorVille now renders your website traffic into a 3D city. I think i’d only have a medieval village, but the idea is pretty compelling. (via Collision Detection)

Jeff + Bob

Thursday, February 2nd, 2006

Conversations 2.0 Jeff Kipnis and Bob Somol ‘doing’ Rem and Peter. Saying what they wish R+P would have said on Monday evening…or what they said in the silence. Both were fantastic - wait for the book.
